A few months ago a furniture store down the street had for sale the most beautiful shabby-chic sideboard, it was love at first sight. The top was left baltic and the knobs, the rest was painted in a creamy-white shade….Mmmm. The price tag on it was about $450. Whew! Thats a price thats non-too-shabby! And certainly not one I was willing to pay.
Within the week I had ventured into one of the local thrift/charity stores, and waiting patiently for a new home down the back, was virtually the exact same shaped sideboard for sale! The entire unit was baltic, two spots on top would need a varnish, the draws a tad wonky, but for $80, I wasn’t going to complain!
I’ve since changed the handles and given it several coats of paint, and an antique wash. This is what it looks like now it’s had several coats of paint. There is another post with it now taking pride of place in the kitchen.
Hi,
Do you have a pic of the finished project? I’d redoing one at the moment… I have to wait till I finish the bookcase and coffee table first 😛
We’ve had happy sunny weather for over a month and all this week its rained… when I want to paint grrr…
Dani
That is the finished project, but not in-situ. I’ll take some pics of it looking great in the kitchen, we had to rip out a stupidly low useless bench to put it in, now I have more cupboards!
I’m in the ‘middle’ or ‘about to start’ several projects myself..;D
I like your idea of painting the inside a diff colour…mmm…
there is nothing more exciting that finding a treasure at the thrift store! I’ve found several furniture pieces that are beautiful, unique and work perfectly!
Nice find. Congrats. Sounds as if you will get many years of enjoyment out of this lovely piece. You should be very proud of yourself. Only wish you could share an “after” pix so we too can feel the love !
